Welcome to Secure Path RI, an initiative of the Office of General Treasurer Gina M. Raimondo that is dedicated to putting Rhode Island on a path toward economic stability and growth.

One of the largest obstacles to prosperity continues to be structurally deficient pension plans. In 2011, Rhode Island achieved comprehensive reform of its state-administered pension plans. Now, municipal leaders are working at the local level to tackle their ailing pension plans.

As with the state-administered pension redesign, it is important to remember that there are real people and families connected to every number. Any proposed reform has immediate and direct consequences for hardworking municipal employees, who have done nothing wrong.  

It can also not be ignored that there are hardworking people outside these local pension systems, who are also struggling to save for their own retirements in the face of rising taxes – taxes that go to support the retirement system.

Secure Path RI aims to support municipal leaders as they begin the process to reform their locally-administered pension plans. Continuing the work started on the state level regarding pension reform is in the interest of every Rhode Islander. We must come together to move Rhode Island toward a brighter future.
