Providence, RI – Today, Rhode Island General Treasurer James A. Diossa marked National Unclaimed Property Day in a new video.

“This National Unclaimed Property Day, I am spreading awareness to make sure people are reunited with their money,” said General Treasurer Diossa. “More than 300,000 Rhode Islanders have property waiting to be returned to them and I want it returned to them. I encourage folks to visit FindRIMoney.com for a quick search—that will take less than 30 seconds—to see if they have unclaimed cash.”

Unclaimed property consists of financial accounts or items of value in which the owner has not initiated any activity for several years. When that happens, and the company cannot locate the owner, the money or properties are submitted to the Office of the General Treasurer. Unclaimed property includes bank accounts, wages, refunds, insurance payments, and more.
